I began to learn cello after 50. The most fun I have playing is with a group of five "aged" beginners like myself who also take lessons from the same teacher as I do. Our teacher conducts our emsemble and finds music appropriate to our various levels of ability. I play the bassoon part in a wind band as well and that is fun -- lots of oomp-pah-pah; not too difficult. I have been invited to play in a Ukranian orchestra that accompanies ethnic dancers -- it seems that the music underground is full of opportunities once you start asking around.
