I think this depends on if one finds more authenticity with a personal interpretation or a historically informed performance practice. A bit a of the question I've been dealing with for an independent project I've been doing with a prof here at my school. I think both ways of doing things are valuable, it just depends on where one places more value. As for an audience, who knows where their preferences lie... I just know you can't please everyone all the time.

By the way, I have the book but only have read bits and pieces. I haven't had a lot of time to read lately. I do find his interpretation of the bowings of the prelude to Suite 1 very fascinating and refreshing.
