I would reccomend taking a look at a free-ware ABC
music program. ABC is a file format which uses
standard text for formating and printing music
files. This format is predominantly used in celtic
folk music, but I'm sure there are a number of
Scotch melodies available. All the files are
written in tenor clef, but I'm looking at a way to
programatically transpose the files into bass.
