I don't play much with pianists these days, but I used to do it a lot. I found a seating arrangement that worked really well for me. It is with the cello chair square on with right end of the keyboard, about a foot away from the piano - that is, if you made a line along the tops of the piano keys, and extended it to the right, it would intersect the right edge of the chair (right side as you are seated in it). Piano top on short stick. If you need more eye contact with the pianist, you can slide a bit to the left, and spin to the right slightly.
